Tax Prep Document Checklist

The documents you need for your tax preparation will be based on your need. Below are some documents that will need to bring for your tax appointment. 

Personal Information

  1. Your social security card

  2. Your spouse's full name, social security number, and date of birth

  3. Identity PIN (given to you and or spouse by the IRS for the previous tax year)

  4. Banking account and routing numbers to receive your refund direct deposit or pay any balances owed. 

  5. Residency information (your current address and or previous address for your W-2)

Dependent(s) Information

  1. Dates of birth and social security cards 

  2. Childcare records (including the providers tax ID number) if applicable

  3. Income of dependents living in the home (adults and children)

  4. Form 8332 from the custodial parent validating the child's right to be claimed by you, the noncustodial parent (if applicable).​

Sources of Income

 If employed- W-2

Unemployed- 1099-G

​

Self Employed 

1099, 1099-MISC or 1099 NEC

Schedules K-1

Records of all expenses: receipts, credit card payments

Business use asset information including (cost, date placed in service) for depreciation

Office in home information, if applicable

Record of estimated tax payments made (Form 1040-ES)

Retirement Income

Pension/IRA/annuity income (1099-R)

Social security/RBR income: SSA-1099. RRB-1099
